Congratulations to CLASI’s Advocacy Director John Whitelaw on his appointment by the Supreme Court of Delaware to the Board of Bar Examiners. As a Board member, Whitelaw will help to oversee the testing and procedures for admission to the Delaware Bar. “I am grateful to the Supreme Court for this opportunity,” says Whitelaw. “As a career legal aid lawyer, I look forward to representing the perspective of the public interest law community on the Board.”
Whitelaw has served as Advocacy Director since 2017, when he rejoined CLASI after first working with us in the mid-1990s. He works with our advocates statewide to pursue creative strategies to address systemic problems faced by our clients. He also manages CLASI’s Public Benefits Unit, Elder Law Program, and Fair Housing Program.
He has over 30 years of experience representing low-income and other vulnerable clients in various legal aid programs across the country, including almost 20 years at Community Legal Services of Philadelphia. He received his law degree from Stanford Law School in 1986 and graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1983, where he majored in History.
